If you read my last blog then you know I recently started a venture selling scentsy with my best friend. I’m not going to lie, so far it has been a lot of fun and I truly love all the products! I’m really hoping that I can take this business somewhere and at least make some part-time money with it. I love the idea of working from home.. I don’t have any kids but I have furry monsters and I love staying home with them. I also just love the freedom to work out in the middle of the day and work when I want. (Like from my couch)

If any of you reading this have ever thought about joining I can tell you about my experience so far.. keeping in mind I’m on my 17th day. I signed up in August because my mentor told me it was a good month to start. She said if you sell $500 PRV (personal retail volume) in the first 15 days of being a consultant you get around $300 of product for free!! (I thought she was crazy) Turns out.. this is a real thing. It is called a shooting star award and any other month it still usually cost the consultant about $200 however because we signed up during August we hit our goal and ordered the shooting star award for free!! I think I’m in Scentsy heaven right now.. can’t wait until we get all our loot!

The first 15 days were not all fun and games though, thank goodness my mentor is super patient because I think I had new questions for her every day! Although my mentor is 5 hours ahead of us (dang Hawaii time) she was still able to answer all my questions really quickly. Hopefully having a great mentor through all of this will help me succeed. Do you want to know the tough part about selling in your first 15 days? You don’t have your starter kit yet, so you don’t have any catelogues, business cards, testers or much direction. The one helpful thing you have is your website! They give you a website personalized to you and for the first 3 months it’s free with the starter kit. After the first 3 months it is only $10/month which I think is super affordable. Check it out

Now the real challenge starts, my friends and family were my customers for my first party, now I need to find actual customers. The hard part for me is not knowing many people on the island and being a little shy. #Igotthis

When I first titled this blog it was all about the change I would go through moving my little family from Arizona to Oahu. After the move I thought I would have nothing to write about, but to be honest things are changing all the time, and I feel like this “embracing change” thing is a good theme. Currently my work life is going through some changes. Without going into too much detail, I’m not happy where I’m currently working. As a chiropractor I’ve always worked in other chiropractor’s offices because I’ve been too afraid to open my own place. I think I’m finally ready to take the plunge and start my own practice. I’ve been offered an amazing opportunity in a great space. Of course I can’t just up and quit my job because we live in Hawaii.. being a one income couple here would be a little rough! (Although my husband is totally behind me on this decision and willing to use savings) I’m sure others can relate to being in a workplace they aren’t happy/comfortable with. But for now, I can manage until I am completely ready.

As if the Chiropractic thing isn’t change enough I decided to take on another challenge as well. I wanted a way to bring in some income on the side as well as be fun, so my bestie and I started selling Scentsy. When I say “started” selling, I mean, we literally signed up 5 days ago. Not only did we just sign up, we set a goal to sell $500 in our first 15 days, if we do that we get a shooting star award as well as great products for free!! I gotta tell ya.. I have been using Scentsy for over 5 years now and have always liked the warmers and scents. (Can’t wait to try out all the other products) I really feel like this could be a great fit for me and for once I’m right where I need to be. I’m having such a great time just telling people about Scentsy. (click here if you want to check out our site ) And.. My bestie is doing it with me, it’s always helpful to have a partner in crime and someone to support you.

My first half marathon was a little over 3 weeks ago now and I am still super proud of myself for getting through it. Now comes the tough part though… my bestie and I are signed up for another half marathon at the end of May (Memorial day weekend). After a half marathon you would think that I would want to sit on my butt for a month straight but that couldn’t happen. We did take some rest days but because we have another half coming up we needed to start training again! I have already mentioned that I had quite the struggle towards the end of the 13 miles for the first one.. my knees didn’t want to work and I sort of wanted to throw up. Well, trying to run again after that wasn’t super pretty!

I tried to take it slow, I did one mile on the treadmill two different days the week after the half just to keep my legs moving and used to the “running motion.” Then that next Sunday (which is our long run day) we tried to do 7 miles..(I think). Oh man, my knees were feeling it, my lungs were feeling it… it seriously felt like I hadn’t run in months!! What gives??? Apparently that half marathon did more to my body than I thought it did!

Anyways, now that we are over 3 weeks out we are finally getting back to our normal running schedule! Three times a week, usually in the mornings and long runs on Sunday to make a grand total of 4 running days a week. (It’s also starting to feel normal again) Hopefully my next half goes a little better than my first half!!! Also… the bestie is trying to talk me into another one in November… help me!!!!! 🙂

I did it.. I ran my first half marathon.. open the champagne bottles!!! Just kidding, all I wanted after that half marathon was lots of cold water! If you have seen my last couple blogs they were counting down to this one crazy day where I would run 13.1 miles with my bestie. “Doing something I’ve never done”at its finest. Anyways, if my bestie were to write a blog about her experience it might sound way different from mine, but here is how I felt. Our half started at 6 am so we woke up around 4:30 to get our stuff ready and put some fuel in our bellies.

Not gonna lie, I was super nervous and anxious for this race.. full disclosure.. about 4 bathroom visits before we left! Sorry for the over share but if you really want to know how my first half felt.. that was part of it. So I had half of a bagel, almost, I could barely finish my half because I was so nervous. I had a few sips of coffee as well as some water.. READY! So we headed off to the race which was luckily only about 2 miles from our house. A friend of mine loaned me her parking spot in Waikiki because parking down there is ridiculous! So there we were, waiting with thousands of people for the start of this race.. 20 min to go.


And we were off.. started out a little slow because as you can see there were a lot of people to navigate around. Starting out felt great, it felt like any other Sunday when we were doing our long runs, we had even run this road before so that was nothing new. Had some water at our first water station around 3 miles and I was still feeling good. Even around miles 5-8 I was somehow still doing okay and felt like this was completely possible! However, I do remember looking at my fitbit a little over an hour in and I was like “wow, we still have an hour and a half of running left.. holy crap!”

Okay so around mile 9 is when we had to run around diamond head which is a pretty decent hill. After already running at least 8 miles hills did not sound like fun, but there we were, running up a hill. Keep in mind my main goal for this half marathon was to not walk…  this made it a little tough! So we made it to the top and the water station was out of water.. you have got to be kidding me! To top that off there was another little hill around the corner (in my head I was praying the finish line was VERY close). As we kept going we ran into another water station THANKFULLY they had water and gatorade so I took both. I think this is partly where I went wrong because I had never had gatorade before during or after a run and it upset my stomach a little. It might also be because I was so thirsty I chugged a little bit! Oops.

So this is when I hit my wall.. not even kidding, we were running the very last mile and it was downhill and I was feeling so dead and tired. My legs didn’t want to move anymore, my stomach hurt, I actually felt like I was going to throw up for a few minutes there. Somehow I pulled through and kept running, it probably helped that I was running with my friend and she was doing fine so she got ahead of me a little bit. I knew I couldn’t stop or walk so I kept my legs moving and made it to the finish line. I didn’t throw up and I am still alive!!! 🙂

Before this half we had already signed up for another one so guess what.. May 29th I have to run 13.1 miles all over again. I haven’t yet decided if I am excited for it or not.. since I just ran this one yesterday I need a few days to recover. Hopefully once I get back out and running  again my legs and body will be excited!! 🙂

So.. lately I have had the urge to get another tattoo.. those of you that have tattoos will understand. I have 3 small tattoos currently, nothing crazy, but once you have one you want more and more. Anyways, I am thinking of getting something to celebrate the fact that I am running a half marathon in 4 days.. (4 days… AHHHH). I’ve also been looking at inspiring quotes because.. why not.. I like to be inspired. I was looking through my pinterest pages because I pin quotes and tattoos I want (LOVE pinterest) and I came across this picture I posted awhile ago.

Seems crazy to me that a little under a year ago this was true, I couldn’t even run a mile without stopping or running out of breath. Look at me now, I’m not super speedy but two weeks ago I ran around 11 miles without stopping! It’s crazy to think how empowering this running thing is, we really can do anything we set our minds to. This made me look back into the quote idea for a tattoo and I came across a quote that says “you are stronger than you know.” There are a lot of quotes I love but I keep coming back to this one.. thinking of getting it on my side or smaller on my forearm. What do you think?

Holy crap guys.. My first half marathon is only two weeks away already! This training thing is no joke, and we are still getting up at 4:30 am to run before work. To add to the training I have joined a group that challenges #100daysofexercise where I have zero rest days. But yoga and walking the dogs count as exercise so I haven’t worn myself out just yet. Here is the crazy thing, I find it very hard to go a day without working out now. I feel super lazy if I don’t get in some push ups or a quick spin class.. It’s very weird, and very inspiring all at the same time!!! I never knew how strong I was or how much I could handle until this challenge. I feel like I’m learning a lot about myself! Speaking of learning things about myself, I have made it 11 miles so far without passing out so I feel like this half is totally attainable. I’m still a little terrified but at least I will have my roommate running by my side!

Man, this has been a long week.. it’s not over yet but at least I can sort of see a light at the end of the tunnel. (1.5 more days of work and then some much needed rest) I am still training for a half marathon so we have gotten up at 4:30 a.m. 3 times this week to run. BTW running sucks when you have lady problems.. sorry gents.. tmi. If training for the half isn’t enough we also have friends in town staying with us all week, don’t get me wrong I love having people here and showing them everything I love about Oahu, it just gets to be a bit much with work sometimes. To make matters even MORE difficult the other chiropractor I work for had hand surgery last week and cannot adjust any patients. I am trying to see my patients as well as all of his patients and still take new patients. There have been new patients in a lot of pain that we have not been able to get in right away and I feel terrible. And the one day I usually have away from the office I am working at a doggie daycare which you think would be pretty easy but it is actually somewhat stressful. Lots of barking, lots of cleaning up accidents, a ton of general cleaning and trying to make sure the dogs don’t hurt each. #toomuchonmyplate

Well that is my week so far, I honestly didn’t realize how stressed out I was till I started writing this. Not gonna lie I wanted to tear up a bit.. but I’m gonna put on my big girl panties and handle the rest of the week like a beast! #beastmode Maybe I can’t handle being a chiropractor who sees a lot a people a week, who knows. Either way, I feel like a terrible person because I have been grumpy this week and have been taking it out on my roomies, friends and hubby. Last night was the worst, they probably think I am a raging b*%#$ (you know). I got home from work and thought I would jump on the #peloton spin bike to relieve some stress (didn’t help, damnit) then I was really hungry bc I hadn’t eaten since lunch but we didn’t end up getting dinner till 9 pm.. that makes for an unhappy Kristen and some scared roommates/friends. At least I feel like I would be scared of me if I was there.. I was pretty damn HANGRY!! Anyways.. apologies to all who have to deal with me this week as well as listen to me.
